The Mediation Device connects to the DER’s controller (i.e. via TCP/IP) and an internet connection for outbound communication
Our SCADA system collects all of the data streams from any Distributed Energy Resoures (DERs) to produce the dashboards, reports and alerts, that facilitate the optimisation and operation of the DERs. Our communication link to the DER is highly configurable which is particularly useful for remote locations where internet access is challenging. Some of the key benefits of the SCADA system include:
Alerts allow you to identify problems in your infrastructure. By quickly identifying unintended changes, you can minimize disruptions to your services.
The alerts are originated directly from the DERs when a pre-specified condition is met. The parameters are often embedded in the controller of the DER by the manufacturer to ensure the safe and optimal operational condition of the resource.
The ‘intelligence’ of the managed DER controller can be ‘enhanced/extended’ with the installation of 3rd party add-on peripherals and sensors connected to an SMC Mediation Device to provide additional alerts
All data ‘streams’ are monitored for out-of-band conditions and user alerts generated and despatched - parameters and thresholds are configurable by the SMC administrator
Alert rules are defined by conditions that are regularly evaluated by the system
Ability to create new alert conditions from multiple data integration
We have implemented advanced multi tenancy across the SMC architecture, from the cloud services through the application layers. The multi tenancy capability is advantageous for the following reasons:
An efficient and secure way to share the cloud services amongst various organisations or groups
All of the SMC organisations can be managed in a single platform supporting independent release of updates and features to selected organisations
Different user levels. users can belong to one or more organisations. Role based permissions and access levels
Smarter Microgrid’s SCADA system provides supervisory-level control for Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), energy storage facilities, and the consumers they supply. Our goal was to develop a lightweight and low-cost SCADA system that provides the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure the effective operation of our own fleet of wind turbines. Our SCADA system is currently operation at x8 wind turbines and x3 solar PV locations.

The Mediation Device connects to the DER’s controller (i.e. via TCP/IP) and an internet connection for outbound communication
The Mediation Device receives its application via OTA update once it establishes a secure and reliable internet connection on site
The SCADA software automatically generates new dashboards that comprise all of the selected attributes of the DER. The user can later customise or add new KPI dashboards that are more relevant to their use case.
SMC’s local software runs on inexpensive low-power computers such as Raspberry Pis, which reflects our fundamental affordable-for-all principle. The hardware cost is negligible compared to the monitored DER.
Raspberry Pi has a growing catalogue of ‘plug & play’ hardware add-ons that further increase its capabilities (e.g. vibration and noise sensors for condition monitoring.)
